Movie chains under fire

Activists protest against what they allege are unethical business practices at three major movie theater chains — CJ CGV, Lotte Cinema and Megabox — in front of the Lotte Cinema’s head office in southern Seoul, Monday. A civic coalition, including People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy and Lawyers for a Democratic Society, criticized the firms for making excessive gains by placing unwanted advertisements prior to movies, charging too much for popcorn and beverages and allotting too many screens for films in which they invested, among other things. / Yonhap
