The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and Twitter Korea are hosting a “museum week” on the social networking platform.
From March 23-29, about 1,100 institutions in 45 countries will introduce themselves and share information about their art collections.
Twitter runs the Museum week culture campaign. Renowned galleries and museums around the world share their collections and exhibition information on Twitter with the hash tag #Museum Week.
Last year, 630 institutions based mainly in Europe ― including the Louvre Museum and Orsay Museum ― participated, generating about 26,000 tweets and 20,000 retweets.
This year, the pool of institutions has diversified to include the British Museum as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
This is the first year Korean institutions will participate. They are the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, National Museum of Korea, National Folk Museum of Korea, Seoul Museum of History, Seoul Arts Center and Doosan Art Center.
