Steel plate hits woman on head

A woman was badly injured when a steel plate fell from the ceiling and hit her head at Shinbanghwa subway station in Seoul on Monday.

Cho Young-soon, 58, was sitting waiting for a train when the plate fell.

"There is no way in this world I could have possibly remembered what happened, because such a heavy object fell on my head," said Cho.

"I remember waking up and noticing my head bleeding."

TV station YTN reported that the plate weighed five kilograms and that Cho’s injury needed six stitches.

One of Cho's eyes was also badly injured.

It was reported that the manager of the subway station, Seoul Metro line 9, would cover Cho's medical costs.
