Public outrage over a recent hit-and-run accident is escalating after the victim’s story was revealed.

The incident took place in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, about two weeks ago, when a man surnamed Kang was walking back home after buying bread for his pregnant wife.

It was then that he was fatally struck by a car.

CCTV footage showed a car driving away from the scene.

Kang, 29, had reportedly made a living as a truck driver to help his wife pass a teacher certification examination.

Public anger has run high after the SBS program “I Want to Know” reported on the incident and told Kang’s story. More than 23 million people have watched the CCTV footage on YouTube.

Police say the car was likely from the BMW 5 Series and white. Authorities are searching for the car as well as for witnesses of the incident.

Netizens vented their frustration online, complaining that the quality of the CCTV footage was too poor to properly identify the vehicle.

“Where do our taxes go? We need to replace the old CCTV cameras with new ones. Most will probably be useless, only showing blurry images.”
