For a toned body, nothing can replace a balanced diet and exercise. But this hasn’t prevented an increasing number of people in Korea to seek some extra help in the form of “slimming” beauty products.
According to Olive Young, the country’s biggest health and beauty chain operator, sales of diet and weight loss products in the first three weeks this month have increased by over 80 percent from the same period last year.
Such products include meal replacements, slimming aids and nutritional supplements.
“Health-related goals are popular among people with New Year’s resolutions, and more people are taking this type of supplements for a fit, healthy body,” an Olive Young spokesperson said.
Sales of meal replacements, which include shakes and soups, are up 53 percent this month, the company reports.
Nutritional supplements have become widely popular; and sales of multivitamin and mineral supplements, in particular, have gone up by about 103 percent from last month.
Vital Beauty’s Meta Green is one of consumers’ favorite products. It contains green tea extract, which is said to have an anti-oxidant effect that helps reduce body fat and stimulate metabolism.
“We are planning to launch more diet and health supplements to meet the growing demand and consumer needs,” said the spokesperson.
