A smartphone case has skyrocketed in sales after a K-pop star was seen holding one at Gimpo International Airport last Friday.

Girl group singer Suzy of Miss A appeared in public holding the pink-flowered case in her hands as she made her way back to Seoul after attending an awards ceremony in Beijing, China.

Following Suzy’s appearance, the product had nearly sold-out over the weekend.

But the case wasn't just an ordinary accessory.

The designs printed onto the plastic cases are artworks painted by former sex slaves under Japanese colonial rule (1910-45).

Suzy’s case featured a painting by Shim Dal-yeon, a sex slavery victim who died in 2010.

Marymond, the manufacturer of the case, is a company that “produces fashion/design artworks designed during horticultural psychotherapy for victims of Japanese military sexual slavery during World War II,” according to its official site.

“We express our gratitude to all people who have shown interest, and we will try our best to satisfy our customers,” the company said on its website.

“We also thank Suzy, and invite all others to take part in our campaign to bring the peace that our victims deserve.”
