Whether you are a smoker or not it’s always a good idea to cleanse your lungs from time to time.

The number of people trying to quit smoking has increased after a price hike on cigarettes that took effect on Jan.1. The government raised cigarette prices from an average of 2,500 won per pack to 4,500 won starting this month in an attempt to curb the country’s smoking rate.

According to Auction, a Korean e-commerce company, sales of smoking cessation products increased last month by 800 percent, on a year-on-year basis. Such products include e-cigarettes and nicotine patches ― as well as distractions such as chocolate and candy ― but some of these can also be addictive.

For those who are planning on kicking the habit as a New Year’s resolution, here is a list of better solutions: detox drinks to help purify your lungs.

Health food company Pulmuone’s asparagus drink is an effective drink that helps detoxify the body. It’s made of six organic plants, including angelica utilis and kale.

The food maker has launched a series of events with public health centers to encourage people to stop smoking. Those who succeed in quitting for three months can receive a free ginseng drink.

Dole Korea has released a fat-free product called Fruit Ball Peach, which contains 50 percent of the recommended daily allowance of vitamin C. According to the company, the fruit has a large amount of organic acids such as citric acid and tartaric acid, all of which help to reduce levels of nicotine. The cup contains only fruit and its juice.

Onions are also said to help the quitting process. According to Lotte Mart, its onion drink contains polyphenols that help reduce nicotine levels.

Experts say regular exercise is not only a welcome distraction from cigarettes, but also good for one’s overall health.
