US ambassador - and his dog - reach out to Korea online
The new U.S. ambassador to Korea has reached out to the most wired nation with his basset hound, fried chicken and a YouTube video.
In his new blog, "The Lipperts in Korea," Mark Lippert introduces his family in Korean through a YouTube video, shaking his dog's paw in greetings to viewers.
"I look forward to interacting with you via my blog," Lippert writes in his post, "My First Days in Seoul," describing the events he has been to during his first week as ambassador.
He mentions his visits to Korean barbecue restaurants and his experience almost "burning the meat," and shows a photo of his wife, who is six months pregnant.
"Our basset hound Grigsby has met many people since he’s been here, and seems to have settled into his new home," the ambassador says in his blog. The Chosun Ilbo reported that the dog was why Lippert made an extra stop in Los Angeles on his flight to Seoul. The paper, however, added that the embassy denied the claim.
Grigsby also features on Lippert's Twitter account. A photo uploaded Thursday showed the ambassador walking the dog on his way to the embassy, greeting Seoul residents.
The ambassador also introduces other activities in which he has taken part, such as Seoul's kimchi festival and lantern festival.
"I'm looking forward to eating delicious food, watching more great sports games, and learning all about Korean culture," he concludes in a post.
