Popular television food critic Lee Young-don claimed a religious cult had attempted to murder him out of revenge for their leader who he helped put on death row.
Appearing in KBS’s Thursday night talk show Happy Together, the 59-year-old former host of Channel A’s popular food-related-crime show Food X-File said he had police protection for two months. Lee said the cult had ordered several members to kill him as well as prosecutors responsible for the death penalty sentence given to their leader.
According to Lee, the leader, whose name he didn’t reveal in the show, was found guilty of murdering and burying 20 people. The crime was brought to light after an informant delivered to Lee and local police a video that recorded the location of the burial site.
Lee is widely known for being the original host of Food X-File, the nation’s first television crime show that brought much awareness to the public about hazardous public eateries. He is also well known for his signature comment in the show, “It’s my favorite food as well” that went viral.
