After floods, Busan to get river festival

Northern Busan, still designated as a special disaster area following heavy rainstorms there last month, will host a river festival next month.
The Nakdong River Festival in the Gupo district will be held from October 14 to 19 and include boat activities, kite flying and musical performances.
But some have questioned the timing of the event. When organizers held a press conference for the event, a resident shouted, "What use is a festival when the recovery isn't even complete?"
Heavy rains slammed Busan, Changwon and other southern parts of the country in late August, causing destructive landslides and flash floods. At least five people died from the storms.
Lawmakers from the area have also expressed their concern over the restoration processes, saying repairs should come before any festivities.
This festival received support from the previous Lee Myung-bak government as part of its Four Rivers Project, which refurbished the Nakdong and other waterways.
