The South Korean military was a source of unintentional comedy on Wednesday: In the morning it alerted reporters about the discovery of a North Korean drone in a mountain south of Seoul. Hours later, the mysterious, blue object was confirmed as part of a broken door of a portable toilet.

``Investigation by the military confirmed the object as part of a broken door made of plastic materials. It is light enough to be moved in the air by wind,’’ said an official from the Joint Chief of Staff.

The object was first found by three civilians who were trekking Mount Cheonggye in Gwacheon, just south of Seoul. They thought it was a drone and alerted military officials, who were later blamed for informing journalists about the discovery before confirming what it was.

The incident seemed to have amused Reuters correspondent James Pearson, who broadcasted this tweet:

The South Korean government announced last week it confirmed that the three drones found crashed near the inter-Korean border in March and April were sent from North Korea, although the Stalinist nation has denied sending the unmanned aerial vehicles.

The South Korean military said it has received more than 80 reports from civilians since the discovery of the discovery of the North Korean drones, but none of them turned out to be true.
