Presidential spokesman 'sorry' for not accepting Park's apology

Presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook Wednesday expressed regret that the families of the victims of the Sewol ferry tragedy don't accept President Park Geun-hye's apology.

“I am so sorry. But the president meant it when she delivered her apology."

Min added that the comment was not an official statement from Cheong Wa Dae, but his own personal remark.

President Park voiced her apology during a Cabinet meeting Tuesday saying, "Many precious lives are lost due to the accident. I say this with a heavy heart, I am sorry and I apologize to the public."

Park did say she was sorry, but public criticism skyrocketed as there was not one family of the Sewol victims present.

Victims’ families told the press conference, "There are 50 million people in this country and yet all she could talk to was to a handful of high-ranking officials? We cannot accept the apology that was delivered in that manner."

Min added that it is inappropriate for him to say whether the president is planning to deliver another apology, since it's been only one day since she made the comment.
