A joint team of prosecutors and police officers released a video footage containing the first two hours of the sunken ferry Sewol before it completely sank under the southwestern sea.

The footage is a compilation of segments captured separately between 9:28 a.m. and 11:17 a.m. on April 16.

Containing rare scenes from the accident site, it helps viewers understand how the tragedy actually started to unfold.

It shows the ferry’s captain Lee Joon-seok with only his underwear while being rescued by a coastguard boat at around 9:35 a.m.

The video also shows the ferry slanted halfway through its complete capsize when Lee was being rescued. It differs from his statement during police investigation that by the time he was rescued, passengers couldn’t escape because it slanted to a near capsize.

The footage also contains passengers swimming off the ferry and being rescued by coastguards. In the last segment filmed at 11:17 a.m., one passenger was receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while in line for chopper transportation.
