He who declared impotence

A man in his 60s who declared that he could not have committed sexual assault because he is impotent has been found to be otherwise and ordered to pay the medical bills for his tests.

The appellate court in Daejeon found a 68-year-old Won guilty of sexually assaulting a disabled teenaged girl and sentenced him to seven years in prison and ordered him to pay 2.39 million won ($2,100) in medical bills.

Won had said in court that he could not have committed the crime because he is impotent but medical tests showed that he was capable of engaging in secual activities.

“To have committed such a crime against a helpless disabled person is a serious crime. And there is no reason why taxpayers should bear burden of performing medical tests to confirm that the person in question is capable of committing such a crime,” the presiding judge said.

Won was charged with sexually assaulting the 15-year-old disabled girld in the security room of an apartment complex in North Chungchong Province in the summer of 2011 and sentenced to seven years in prison by a lower court.
