Money is major factor in the happiness of the young
One in 10 people in their 20s and 30s do not feel a single moment of happiness in a week, mostly because of financial constraints resulting from failure to make sufficient earnings.
According to the Duo Human Life Institute and Prof. Choi In-chol of Seoul National University, a survey of 1,000 persons aged between 20 and 39 (509 men and 491 women) showed that 116 of them felt no happiness at all.
On the average, respondents felt happy on 3.1 times a week with less than 1 percent saying they feel so on more than 10 occasions and 116 replying that they do not have a single moment of happiness through a week.
By factor, the 15.6 percent of the respondents pointed to their love lives, 3.3 percent to friendship and an overwhelming 36.8 percent to finances.
About four in 10 said they were not satisfied with their financial earnings. Only 14.3 percent said they felt so.
By income, those making more than 40 million won ($36,000) a year felt happy 3.5 times a week, those earning 40-20 million won (($36,000-18,000) 3.0 times and those taking home 20-10 million won ($18,000-9,000) 2.8 times.
The level of education also played a significant role in the happiness code with those having graduated from university feeling happy 3.2 times a week and those with high school diplomas and less 2.4 times.
