Service buildings banned overcooled from next week

Department stores, banks, hotels, airports and other large service business buildings will be banned from being overcooled, starting next week.

The Ministry of Knowledge and Economy said Monday that 586 buildings which use 2,000 tons of oil equivalent will not be allowed to be cooled below 26 degrees Celsius in general office buildings and 25 degrees in sales shops from next week.

Initial violators will face correction orders and second violators will be fined up to 3 million won, according to the ministry.

As many as 90 percent of the 100 sample buildings are checked to observe the recommended indoor temperature in a demonstration prior to the full introduction.

The 90 buildings kept the indoor temperature at 26.4 degrees on average, higher than the recommended temperature, while the temperature of the remaining 10 establishments averaged at 25 degrees.

The 10 buildings which failed to observe the indoor temperature include six banking institutions.

The ministry said that it will strongly sustain the energy thrift campaign, the mandatory limiting of cooling at large business buildings, including services sector.

'냉방피서 이제 끝'…다음주부터 냉방 제한조치 발동

과냉방으로 전력을 많이 쓰는 대형 사업장에 대한 냉방온도 제한조치가 다음 주부터 시작된다.

지식경제부는 다음 주부터 에너지 사용량이 2천 석유환산톤(TOE)을 넘는 건물 586곳에 대해 일반건물 냉방온도 26도, 판매시설 25도를 적용해 냉방온도 제한조치에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

제한조치를 지키지 않는 영업장에 대해서는 1차 위반시 권고와 시정조치가 내려지며, 2차 위반시는 300만 원 이하의 과태료가 부과된다.

지경부는 본격적인 제도 시행에 앞서 점검대상 100곳을 상대로 권장냉방온도 준수실태를 점검한 결과, 준수율은 90% 정도로 대체로 양호했다고 설명했다.

권장온도를 준수한 90개 영업장의 평균온도는 26.4도, 미준수 10개 영업장의 평균온도는 25도로 나타났다.

미준수 영업장 10곳 가운데 금융기관이 6곳으로 가장 많았지만, 권장온도와 실내온도의 격차가 가장 큰 곳은 호텔인 것으로 조사됐다.

지경부는 앞으로 서비스업종을 포함한 대형건물의 에너지 낭비를 막기 위해 냉방온도 제한조치 적용 등의 강력한 에너지절약 대책을 지속적으로 추진하겠다고 밝혔다.
