Dead Man Wakes Up Before Autopsy

An Indian man declared dead surprised hospital staff by waking up during his autopsy, the New York Daily News reported.

Doctors were performing a post-mortem examination on Manas Deo Monday after he had been hit by a car, the newspaper said quoting the Orissa Sambad newspaper.

Deo was critically injured Christmas day by a vehicle near Jajpur's Baragadia village on the east coast of India.

Police transported the man to a local hospital where the doctor pronounced him dead.

Prematurely, it turns out.

"It was a surprise for the hospital staff and family members after Manas woke up when the doctors began his autopsy," the paper reported.

After waking up, Deos was taken to a hospital in the nearby city of Cuttack for treatment.

He is presently recovering and will reportedly be released in a week or two.

This is not the first time someone has woken up after being declared dead.

In 2007, a Venezuelan man named Carlos Camejo was taken to the morgue, also following a car accident. When doctors began cutting the victim's face, they were shocked to see him start bleeding and quickly stitched him back up.

His wife reportedly arrived at the morgue to identify the body ― only to find him alive.

교통사고 사망자 부검 중 되살아나

교통사고를 당해 숨진 인도의 한 남성이 부검 중 갑자기 깨어난 기적 같은 일이 일어났다.

마나스 데오는 지난 해 크리스마스 날 교통사고를 당해 곧장 병원으로 후송됐지만, 상처가 워낙 심해 결국 사망 판정을 받았다.

하지만 판정이 너무 빨랐던 것일까?

몇 시간이 지난 후 데오의 가족들이 병원으로 들어와 사망확인서에 사인을 했고, 의사들은 정확한 사인을 알기 위해 부검을 실시하고자 했다.

이후 이 병원의 부검실에서 믿을 수 없는 일이 벌어졌다. 부검실로 옮겨진 사망자가 부검이 막 시작되려는 찰나에 정신을 되찾은 것.

혼비백산 한 의사들은 환자를 인근의 더 큰 병원으로 후송했으며, 정밀검사를 진행했다.

그는 현재 회복 중인데, 1-2주면 퇴원할 것으로 보인다.

한편 2007년 베네수엘라에서도 이와 비슷한 일이 발생해 사람들을 깜짝 놀라게 한 바 있다.

당시 교통사고로 병원에 후송된 카를로 카메호는 사망선고를 받은 뒤 곧장 병원으로 후송됐다. 의사들은 이식수술을 위해 그의 피부를 잘라내던 중 갑자기 시신에서 생명반응을 포착했고, 결국 의료진은 깜짝 놀랄 틈도 없이 피부를 다시 꿰매는 등 진땀을 흘려야 했다
