A woman in her 40s who worked as both a singer and announcer in South Gyeongsang Province has been indicted on charges of killing her teenage daughter by assaulting and neglecting her, prosecutors said Tuesday.

According to the Changwon District Prosecutors’ Office, the woman was indicted and detained on charges of murder for the death of her 18-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said she assaulted her daughter, a college student on leave, at a residence in the southern coastal county of Namhae on Sept. 22.

The investigation found that the mother poured hot water on the victim, causing severe scalp lacerations and burns, after beating her during a work trip related to her broadcasting equipment rental business.

She then left her injured daughter inside her car for more than two days, leading to her death, according to prosecutors.

The crime was uncovered only after the woman brought her daughter’s body to a hospital in Namhae, where medical staff noticed signs of abuse and alerted the police.

The woman was known to have been active in the South Gyeongsang region as a singer and announcer and also ran her own YouTube channel.
