Korea has launched an online platform to work with other countries in fighting international sex crimes targeting children.

The National Police Agency said on Monday that the operation of the platform called InaRAE (International Response Against Exploitation) has now begun, with six other countries — the UAE, Nepal, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand — set to join the effort to crack down on sexually abusive images of children.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, a private U.S. organization established in 1984 to protect children, also expressed its intention to take part, the police agency said.

The system, to which the investigative authorities of participating nations will receive access, shows which country the website hosting such material is based in and whether it is lawfully registered.

If the site itself is unlawful, police may send a deletion request through the system to their counterparts in another country. If the site is legally registered, they may ask for the removal of the illegal videos or photos only.

The system will make international cooperation easier, faster and more transparent. It is also expected to serve as a platform to track the patterns of offenders.

At meetings with ASEAN chiefs of national police agencies, taking place between July 1 and 5, the Korean police agency plans to urge more countries to participate in the project.
