A woman in her 80s died of heatstroke in the sweltering hot and humid weather that has gripped the country for days, police said Friday.
The woman, 85, was found near her house in Gimhae, South Gyeongsang Province, Thursday afternoon. A woman living next door found her and called police.
Police are investigating the cause of her death, with overexposure to the hot weather considered the No.1 factor. Gimhae's mid-day high on Thursday was 31-33 degrees Celsius, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.
Police said the woman had lived alone for nearly 30 years, growing vegetables in her front yard.
