The Korea-Asia Pacific Economic Association (KAPEA) said Monday that it will host the Post-APEC Global Vision Summit, bringing together around 700 domestic and foreign firms in Seoul and Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, for two days starting Thursday.

KAPEA, sponsored by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is a nonprofit organization under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that aims to promote economic cooperation between Korea and countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The organization said the two-day event seeks to create investment opportunities between companies from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member states.

“With global attention focused on the successful hosting of the Gyeongju APEC summit, Korea’s national standing has significantly risen. Now is the optimal time to expand international cooperation and economic engagement,” KAPEA Chairman Ji Young-mo said.

“This event goes beyond intergovernmental discussions following the APEC Economic Leaders’ Summit. It will serve as a platform for practical international cooperation involving both governments and private companies from participating countries.”

According to KAPEA, some 700 companies — 200 foreign and 500 domestic companies — are expected to join the APEC follow-up event. Government officials and diplomats from 20 countries, including the U.S., China, Canada, Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia, France, Germany and Spain, will participate.

The event will discuss a wide range of future technologies and industrial topics, including artificial intelligence (AI), biohealth care, culture, supply chain security and the exhibition industry. During the event, government bodies, companies and academic institutes can explore possible partnerships.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok is set to offer congratulatory remarks via conference call. North Gyeongsang Province Gov. Lee Cheol-woo, Peruvian Ambassador to Korea Paul Duclos, Chinese Ambassador to Korea Dai Bing and LS Group Chairman Koo Ja-yeol are expected to attend the event.

Key institutions include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, Asia2G Capital, the China-Asia Economic Development Association, the Korea Tourism Association, the Korea Bio Association and the Korea-Japan Future Forum, as well as domestic companies including Samsung, SK, CJ Group and LS.

“The summit will showcase the investment competitiveness of North Gyeongsang Province, the host region, while offering cultural performance programs that blend economic, industrial, diplomatic and cultural exchanges,” KAPEA Chairman Ji said.

“During the summit, six joint investment agreements will be signed between North Gyeongsang Province, Gyeongju City and companies from other countries. Additionally, governors and mayors from all 23 cities and counties of North Gyeongsang Province will gather with the provincial governor to announce the ‘Post-APEC Vision Declaration,’ reaffirming the commitment of local governments to collaborate and demonstrate leadership in Korea’s global contributions,” he added.

Of the event’s four discussion sessions, the first will discuss AI technology, during which former Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se is set to deliver a keynote speech under the theme of “Elevating the Spirit of APEC into Responsible AI for Humanity” in the Grand Ballroom of the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas.

The second session, titled “Digital Trade and Supply Chain Forum,” will begin with a keynote address by Xu Zegang, chief representative in Korea of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. His address will focus on the theme of “Building a Sustainable Trade Ecosystem in an Era of Multiple Crises: International Cooperation Strategies for Connectivity and Resilience Across the Asia-Pacific.”

The third session will be the “K-Culture Creative Industries Forum,” featuring prominent figures from the entertainment content and related industries.

In the final session, Lee Nam-eok, head of the Airport Investment Headquarters of North Gyeongsang Province and a key counterpart for the summit from the provincial side, will present a briefing on the construction of the new Daegu-Gyeongbuk International Airport, scheduled to open in 2030, along with related investment opportunities.
