Edelweiss brings Swiss cusine

When chef Martin Muller decided to bring Swiss cusine to local diners he chose a name many in Korea are familiar with. Edelweiss, the name of the song about a flower that grows in the Alps, from the hit movie “The Sound of Music.”
Management and owner Muller of Edelweiss Swiss Deli & Kitchen, located in the heart of expat neighborhood of Seoul, Haebangchon, threw an opening party on Saturday afternoon and welcomed guest to sample Swiss food, wine and beer.
The establishment offers a distinct selection of breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner specialties for every taste, including fresh seasonal dishes.
With over 30 years experience, Muller has worked as head chef in five star hotels and resorts around the globe, including the Westin Chosun in Busan.
Offering everything from sandwiches, goulash soup (7,000 won) and summer salad, comprising of crispy romaine, craisins, toasted walnuts, cucumber, spicy eggplant and blue cheese (7,800 won) to Currywurst (7,500 won), Swiss cheese crust, wine soaked bread baked with a special cheese mix (19,000 won) and Cheese fondue (29,000 won) Muller’s broad international culinary experience and extensive cooking techniques, inspire his passion to create and entice. While maintaining a traditional cooking style, he adds a modern touch to his presentations.
“I have gained a great deal of international culinary experience and extensive Asian cooking techniques,” he states on his resume.
Other home made products include salads, soups, baked good, sweet, cold cuts and sausages, smoked ham, bacon and various salamis, cheeses, ketchup, mustard, butter, mixed pickles, seasoning blends and infused salt.
To celebrate the opening guests were treated to a traditional yodeling performance and the singing of “Edelwiess” by Korean performer Shin Hae suk, also known as the Yodel Lady, as well as an introductory greeting by Muller.
He offered his appreciation for those attending the event and reminded guests of the selection of alcoholic beverages.
“We offer imported beers and a selection of wines to accommodate every meal, so feel free to indulge,” he said.
