Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back has ordered a swift probe into the death of an Army officer found with a gunshot wound, the ministry said Wednesday.
The order came a day after the body of the Army captain was found at a park in the southeastern city of Daegu, with bleeding around the head and an apparent military K-2 rifle nearby. The firearm has been confiscated.
Ahn called for a strict reprimand of relevant officials and an inspection of the military's firearm management system, including how the K-2 rifle was taken out of the military, according to the ministry.
No signs of foul play have been found, a military official said.
