Korean Marines to take part in US-Indonesia military exercise for 1st time

Korea's Marine Corps will take part in an annual major military exercise to be led by the United States and Indonesia for the first time this week, officials said Tuesday.
The two-week Super Garuda Shield exercise will run from Saturday through Sept. 7 in the Southeastern Asian nation, also involving some 5,000 personnel from 14 countries.
Korean Marines will mobilize around 20 personnel, including their special reconnaissance team, to take part in small-unit combat skills training, special warfare and amphibious training.
The Super Garuda Shield exercise was launched in 2007 to enhance operational capabilities in jungle warfare between the U.S. and Indonesia and has since evolved into a large-scale multinational exercise.
