S. Korea, UAE ink deal on cooperation on KF-21 jets

Senior Air Force officials from South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday signed a letter of intent for comprehensive cooperation on the South's homegrown fighter jets, the South Korean Air Force said.

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Lee Young-su and Maj. Gen. Rashed Mohammed A. Al Shamsi, commander of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, signed the agreement during a visit to Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd., the KF-21's manufacturer, in Sacheon, about 290 kilometers south of Seoul, according to the Air Force.

Under the preliminary agreement, the UAE Air Force will be able to observe air drills involving the KF-21 and visit South Korean units that will operate the fighter jet.

The KF-21 is set to be delivered to the South's Air Force next year.
