Minor quake rattles Uiseong

A minor 2.1-magnitude earthquake struck the southeastern town of Uiseong on Wednesday. There was no damage, according to the state weather agency.
The seismic activity was detected at 12:10 a.m., with its epicenter estimated at 27 kilometers northwest of the town.
Meanwhile, the government will launch an extensive geological survey in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula this year to check active faults and map out countermeasures. The survey will continue for five years, according to the National Safety and Security Commission.
It will use the survey’s results to update safety guidelines for nuclear power plants. South Korea operated 24 nuclear reactors as of last December, with 18 along the southeastern coast.
