Woman accused of sharing photos of sexual disease patients on Instagram

A woman in her 20s has been accused of defamation for running an Instagram account where she allegedly posted information about random men she claimed had a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
The woman from Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, created the account under the name “STD Patch” between late June and early July 2015, Seoul Seongdong police said Tuesday. She had been posting personal information and pictures of about 50 men who were reported by netizens as STD carriers, they said. But most reports turned out to be false.
“My intention was to create an alert to those men who do harm to women by transmitting their diseases,” the suspect said during an investigation.
While admitting the accusation, she asked police to investigate other controversial Instagram accounts that went viral for posting misogynist content.
The woman used multiple email accounts to keep creating new Instagram accounts after her old ones were blocked, police said.
“We will work closely with global corporations, such as Facebook, to crack down on crimes that take place on SNS,” police said.
