A buffet restaurant was caught with food and sauces in its refrigerator that had passed their shelf life by 400 days, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said Tuesday. The restaurant received a 15-day business suspension.
The regulator made the stunning discovery during a nationwide inspection of 4,825 restaurants. Another 163 restaurants were busted for using ingredients with an expired shelf life or had stored ingredients in unsanitary conditions.
“Almost all violations were related to basic safety regulation,” an inspector said. “We are planning to expand our safety checkups and hold seminars to raise restaurant owners’ awareness of food safety.”
