Congratulatory message -- Foreign minister

Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se
By Yi Whan-woo
I extend my warmest congratulations to The Korea Times as it celebrates its 65th anniversary as Korea’s first independent English daily. This is another major milestone following its 20,000th edition earlier this year.
Over the decades, The Korea Times has successfully established itself as a leader in the nation’s English-language journalism and as a bridge between Korea and the international community.
Starting from its first issue on Nov. 1, 1950 at the height of the Korean War, it faithfully recorded and reported Korea’s trials and tribulations, and has grown together with the ensuing success story of Korea’s rapid development and democratization.
Today, at a period of transformative changes in the international landscape, Korea stands at a critical juncture.
The Korean government is engaging proactively, as can be seen in President Park Geun-hye’s recent summit diplomacy, including her visits to Beijing, the United Nations and Washington, as well as the successful hosting of the Korea-Japan-China Trilateral Summit.
These are part of the Korean government’s continued endeavors to promote lasting peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, and human dignity as well as humanity around the world. As such, accurate reporting and in-depth analysis by influential media such as the Korea Times is crucial in giving readers an informed understanding of events in this part of the world and beyond.
In this regard, it is my sincere hope that The Korea Times will continue to play a bridging role of connecting Korea to the rest of the world by delivering the news in a timely, impartial and unbiased manner.
I wish The Korea Times and its readers continued success and happiness.
