Woman booked for stealing bride's diamond ring

Police have booked a woman, surnamed Oh, 55, for stealing a diamond ring from a bride hours before her wedding.

According to officials at Gangnam Police Station, Tuesday, the bride, Kim, 25, found her wedding ring missing while having makeup put on at a beauty parlor in Cheongdam-dong in southern Seoul at around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday.

Kim had taken the one-carat diamond ring off and put it on a basin while washing her hands at the shop. She forgot to put the ring back on, and when she noticed and returned to the bathroom, the 12 million won ring was gone. The wedding was due to start in three hours.

She reported the missing ring to police, who checked surveillance camera recordings. The recordings showed a woman named Oh, an assistant of another bride, entered the bathroom after Kim.

But Oh had already left for the wedding venue in northern Seoul.

Police went to the venue and asked Oh about the ring. She confessed to stealing the ring and gave it back to the officers. She said she had taken the ring on the spur of the moment.

The officers rushed to Kim’s wedding, and returned the ring just in time.

Oh was booked without physical detention.
