President Park Geun-hye wore a gold-colored jacket when she attended a huge military parade on Thursday marking the end of World War II.
The wardrobe choice by Park was seen as a message of congratulation to the Chinese people, who have long cherished the metallic shade, along with the color red, as a symbol of fortune.
Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted the military parade to show off his catchphrase "China Dream" for national rejuvenation.
Xi was dressed in a dark-gray Mao Zedong-style suit, while other foreign leaders attending the military parade wore black suits, making Park's wardrobe noticeable on the rostrum overlooking Tiananmen Square, where the military parade was staged.
When Park paid a state visit to China in 2013, she donned a traditional Korean costume in gold as well.
Chinese netizens expressed a sense of friendless toward Park, calling her "Piao Dajie," which means "Sister Park" in Mandarin Chinese.
In comments posted on Chinese Internet portals, some netizens praised Park's wardrobe choice, saying her jacket was one of most eye-catching points on the rostrum.
