Man escapes death in faulty elevator

A man was almost crushed when an apartment elevator he fell into went up with its doors open.
The incident happened in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, late last month, SBS news reported Saturday.
CCTV footage shows the man tripping into the moving elevator.
But he manages to get out before being crushed as the elevator rises.
His injuries are reportedly not serious.
“I was lucky to have fallen down on floor (after escaping from the elevator),” the man, surnamed Ha, told SBS. “If it had been a child or an elderly person, they could have dropped to their death.”
SBS quoted an expert as saying: “Parts of outdated machinery should be replaced. But it seems society is reluctant to invest in the maintenance.”
