5 more government agencies to relocate to Sejong this month

Five additional government agencies, including the National Tax Service, will move this month to Sejong City, an administrative town 150 kilometers south of Seoul, according to the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, Wednesday.

The other agencies moving are the Ministry of Government Legislation, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Korea Post and KTV.

“The relocation of the agencies will continue for two weeks, from Friday,” the administration ministry said in a press release.

This is part of a years-long project to move dozens of government agencies to the new administrative complex. Last year, the Prime Minister’s Office and five ministries, including the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, were relocated to Sejong.

Once the relocation of the five additional agencies is completed, Sejong will house 36 governmental agencies with some 13,200 staffers.

The National Emergency Management Agency was excluded from the relocation list since the agency has been merged into the Ministry of Public Safety and Security following the Sewol ferry disaster.

The relocation project started in 2004 to promote balanced regional development.
