Lee Jong-woo named standing commissioner of election commission

President Lee Myung-bak on Tuesday designated the secretary general of the National Election Commission as the standing commissioner of the election watchdog, his office announced.

Lee Jong-woo, a long-time election management official with decades of experience, will replace Kang Kyung-keun as the standing commissioner at the agency. Kang's three-year term expires on Dec. 13 and Lee's nomination is subject to a parliamentary confirmation hearing.

The commission consists of a total of nine commissioners, including the chairperson.

Lee, 56, has been the commission's secretary general since 2010. (Yonhap)
