'I cost just 20,000 won'

A large number of Chinese university students have been found to have worked as hostesses in bars.

According to the Incheon immigration office of the Justice Ministry Friday, a crackdown on entertainment establishments in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, for 10 days till the end of September led to capture of 19 Chinese women. The office said they worked as serving hostesses at karaoke rooms and bars.

Immigration officials said the women paid a commission of 7,000 won ($6) of the service charge of 25,000 won ($22) per hour and kept the remaining 18,000 won ($16) while working as “doumi” (helper).

Of the 19, 11 were in Korea as university students or enrolled in language courses.

The immigration office said the admission qualifications of the students will be revoked and the facilities which employed them will face criminal charges.
