Game-addicted teenager assaults mother

An alleged game-addicted teenager, suspected of posting a video clip of him assaulting his mother, has died in a local hospital. The suspect jumped from the third floor of an officetel in a desperate bid to evade arrest, police said Sunday.

The 18-year-old man, surnamed Noh, posted the video clip on a social networking site last week, sparking a huge public uproar. He filmed himself cursing and beating his 40-something mother in a location believed to be a bathroom of the officetel.

Police swooped in on the building in Jeju City on Saturday following a report from a citizen. Noh jumped off from the room to evade officers, resulting in fatal injuries. He died later in the day from the injuries sustained at a local hospital, police said.

Noh was said to be an online game-addict and had a history of mental disorders. He dropped out of school early this year.

His mother told officers that he got upset after being told to stop using the Internet.
