Snow expected nationwide on Christmas Eve

The weather agency has forecast snow in most parts of the country on Christmas Eve with the current cold spell continuing over the weekend.

It could be a white Christmas for some, with snow predicted for Sunday in some regions, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) Friday.

The agency said it will start to snow from the early morning of Christmas Eve in many parts of the country.

The agency issued an alert for heavy snow in the western parts of the country and on Jeju Island.

“Overcast skies are expected through much of the country, with a high possibility of some form of precipitation,” a KMA spokesman said.

At least three centimeters of snow is expected in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, the northeastern part of Gangwon Province, Chungcheong Province and Jeolla Province, the official said.

In the southern parts of Chungcheong Province and Jeju, snowfall may last throughout Christmas Day with up to 10 centimeters of snow, he said.

Meanwhile, there seems to be no break from the cold weather with the mercury over the weekend falling below minus 10 degrees Celsius in many parts of the peninsula.

Saturday’s morning low may range from minus 10 to minus 2 with a daily high of between minus 5 and 2 Celsius, the weather agency said.
