Ex-commando chokes his girl friend

A former commando received a one-year prison sentence for choking his girl friend and causing her to faint during a fight over the man’s cheating on her, a Seoul district court said Wednesday.

The scuffle erupted after the man, surnamed Chung, 21, was found cheating on Park, 21, in his apartment last July when she made a surprise visit. Chung was a former member of the ROK Special Forces Command.

Park, infuriated at Chung’s cheating, asked him to choose between “breaking up with her or being beaten up.” Chung chose the latter.

Park, while hitting Chung, said her knuckles ached and started hitting him with boxing gloves on. Chung, in response, put a gum shield in. The two fought like boxers.

Chung, however, angered by being beaten up by his girlfriend, suddenly used a wrestling technique called “choke slam” where Park was picked up by her neck and slammed to the ground.

Park fainted and hurt her left shoulder and acquired intractable vocal chord paralysis. When Park continued pressing Chung about his affair, he sent a threatening text message saying he would hurt her family.

Park, angry at Chung, reported him to the police for causing her serious injury.
