KIPA sheds light on administration

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Korea Institute of Public Administration (KIPA).

I would like to congratulate its President Park Eung-kyuk and other staff members on the auspicious occasion.

I also want to say congratulations on hosting the international seminar on “Discover Korea in Public Administration: The Past, Present, and Future of Public Administration in Korea” as one of the 20th anniversary events.

As the only national research institute in the field of administration, KIPA has grown as a major player contributing to modernizing administrative systems and enhancing national competitiveness over the past two decades.

Over the years, KIPA has made a huge contribution to the improvement of administrative systems and policy development processes by helping to reform government structure, civil service employment, policy evaluation systems and business regulations.

Recently, KIPA has been expanding its research into the conflict management and disaster prevention that require more sophisticated analyses and in-depth studies. It also established Social Research Center to investigate and analyze policy issues with statistical data.

Since public administration in Korea has made a major contribution to national development and will play an important role in the future as well, this international seminar is meaningful in terms of shedding new light on the role of public administration for several decades and searching a direction for future development.

It is being held in perfect time for developing countries that are trying to benchmark the successful case of the Korean government.

I believe this international seminar will provide moments to review the achievements of the Korean administration and find a new way to step up by carefully studying its characteristics and roles.

Many policy experts from home and abroad have attended the seminar. This conference will be a significant success for the gathering of high ranking government officials and prominent scholars, including a professor from Syracuse University, and the presidents of major academic societies, both national and international.

I hope you will have a good debate and offer sound advice for improving our services.
