’Man took body of cat swarming with maggots to coffee shop’

Police said Thursday they arrested a man who, while intoxicated, took the body of a cat swarming with maggots to a coffee shop in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, southern Seoul.

According to the Gangdong Police Station, the man, identified by his family name Lee, put the body, which was left in a wastebasket, into a plastic bag, brought it with him and threw it at the counter of the coffee shop around 11 p.m., Sept. 11.

Lee scuffled with police officers who rushed to the scene and hit the head of one with a bottle of soju, a spokesman said.

At that time, there were about 10 customers and employees of the coffee shop. Five of them screamed and ran away, the spokesman said.

During questioning, the man argued that he was just asking employees to dispose of the body.
