165,000 N. Korean troops for ’terror attack’ on S. Korea: source
North Korea, which aims to communize the entire Korean Peninsula by force, has 165,000 troops for “terror attacks” on South Korea, a North Korea watcher said Wednesday.
The figure breaks down to 110,000 special forces; 40,000 snipers for marine and air targets; 10,000 troops for “electronic terror operations” and 5,000 forces for reconnaissance, said Kim Seong-min, head of the North Korean People Liberation Front, at a press conference to mark the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War. The news conference was held at the Press Center in central Seoul.
Their mission includes instigating disturbances within South Korea and paralyzing the South’s state control tower to create circumstances under which the North could communize the peninsula by force, he said.
In addition to these troops, the communist state has about 30,000 secret forces for hacking, assassinations and psychological warfare, Kim said.
They belong to the Reconnaissance Bureau, the Department of Operations for Enemies, the ruling Workers Party’s 225 Bureau and the Security Command, he added.
Referring to the North’s 29 Marine Snipers Brigade, Jeon Ju-young, a department chief of the group, said the brigade has 3,000 troops with the mission of launching special strikes on the South.
Those, who are selected as successful candidates for marine snipers through screening, undergo intensive training for a year, Jeon said.
