Senior US, S. Korea officials to meet

Senior foreign affairs and defense officials of South Korea and the United States will meet Tuesday in Washington to discuss issues of mutual interest.

In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Kim Jae-shin, deputy foreign minister, will meet his U.S. counterpart Kurt Campbell, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs.

Also joining the so-called “2+2” meeting on the defense side are Lim Kwan-bin, deputy minister for policy at the Ministry of National Defense and Derek Mitchell, principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for Asian and Pacific security affairs.

The officials will discuss North Korea, the South Korea-U.S. alliance and the two sides’ regional and global cooperation.

Last year, Seoul and Washington agreed to hold the deputy minister-level 2+2 meeting on a regular basis.
