Netizens cry for puppy lost in the tsunami

The massive earthquake and devastating tsunami that hit Japan Friday was not only deadly to human beings but also to animals.

Footage of a tiny animal trying desperately to run from the tsunami was captured by NOS, a national broadcast station in the Netherlands.

Although unclear, the video shot from above shows a black puppy trying to avoid the strong, tall waves by running back and forth. However, the puppy did not make it and disappeared from sight.

NOS described the scene as devastating as the tsunami wiped out a whole village full of animals and people in just one day.

The video clip has been getting much attention after it was uploaded on YouTube, the world’s largest video-sharing site.

“I couldn’t finish watching the dog trying to fight for its life because of my tears,” said one netizen, while another added, “I sincerely hope that the puppy lives.”

There were reports of animals being miraculously saved. A Japanese media showed one dog struggling in the mud before being rescued by the rescue team.

Rescue dogs have also been included in the search parties to help look for survivors.

일본 쓰나미 피해 달리는 강아지…네티즌들도 눈물

지난 11일 오후 일본 동북부를 강타한 규모 9.0의 대지진과 쓰나미(지진해일)는 사람 뿐 아니라 동물들에게도 재앙이었다.

일본의 한 마을에 밀려든 쓰나미를 피해 작은 강아지 한 마리가 필사의 질주를 하는 안타까운 모습이 네덜란드 국영방송 NOS의 카메라에 포착됐다.

세계 최대 동영상 사이트 유투브에서 관심을 모은 이 영상에는 검은 강아지 한 마리가 거세게 몰아닥치는 쓰나미를 피해서 앞으로 달렸다가, 뒤로 달리는 등 우왕좌왕하는 모습이 담겼다.

상공에서 촬영된 화면이라 강아지의 정확한 모습은 보이지 않았지만, 쓰나미의 물살을 피해 이리 뛰고 저리 뛰던 강아지는 결국 휩쓸려 사라지고야 말았다.

영 상을 본 네티즌 luvhockey4ever은 “주인 잃고 헤매는 강아지의 모습에 눈물이 나서 영상을 볼 수가 없다.”고 안타까워 했으며 WinRomanista 41은 “강아지가 기적처럼 꼭 살아있었으면 좋겠다.”고 바람을 드러내기도 했다.

반면 쓰나미의 검은 물살에서도 기적적으로 목숨을 구한 개들도 있다. 일본의 TV방송이 공개한 영상에 보면 개 한 마리가 깊은 진흙탕 속에서 허우적대다가 구조대에 발견돼 놀라움을 줬다. 현재 피해현장에는 구조견들이 투입돼 생존자를 찾고 있기도 하다.

거대한 자연재해 앞에서 사람과 동물은 큰 피해를 입었다. NOS방송은 “많은 사람과 동물들이 살던 마을은 하루아침에 닥친 쓰나미로 지옥으로 바뀌었다.”며 참담한 현장을 설명하기도 했다.
