Korean Air to halt flights linking Cairo next week

Korean Air Lines said Saturday that it will halt flights between Tashkent and Cairo next week as political unrest continues in Egypt.

However, the flights linking Incheon and Tashkent will remain in service, the airline said.

"We will decide whether to resume service on the route depending on the situation," it said.

Around 900 South Koreans flew home from Egypt this week as anti-government protests escalated in the North African nation.

The protests that started late last month are continuing across Egypt even after more than 100 people were reportedly killed and thousands injured in clashes between police and demonstrators, who demand the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.

No South Korean casualties have so far been reported. (Yonhap)
