NLCS Jeju to recruit 634 students next year

The North London Collegiate School (NLCS), the first international school to open on Jeju Island, has fixed the number of students for enrollment in the starting year at 634. The U.K.-based school will increase the number to 1,122 in 2012 and 1,402 in 2013.

The NLCS Jeju, scheduled to open next September in “Jeju Global Education City,” said tuition has been set at about $21,000 (23.66 million won) per year for elementary school students, $22,000 for middle school and $25,000 for high school students. It will also charge $12,000-13,000 for dormitory services.

“NLCS is renowned for excellent academic performances and many graduates advance to world famous universities. We will accept self-driven students with diverse talents,” Elaine Shim, admission director of the NLCS Jeju, told reporters during a press conference.

The school will start to receive applications from Dec. 6 through Jan. 21. Candidates have to pass IQ tests, an in-depth interview and essay writing exams all in English. Successful applicants will be announced in April, next year.

The school will run curricula from kindergarten through to high school.

Korean nationalities are restricted from applying for kindergarten through fourth grade in the elementary school program.
