“A daughter of a North Korean cadre I met was imitating the accent of South Koreans. South Korean culture has deeply infiltrated North Korea like a magic,” said John Everard, a former British Ambassador to North Korea.

In a lecture at Stanford University Friday, titled “Inside North Korea,” Everard shared with audience how it was like to live in North Korea and experience the country from within from his own experience from 2006 to 2008.

Although North Koreans “officially” treat Americans as enemies with outward hostility, but they are actually very much interested in Americans and American culture, especially its music, Everard said.

Currently, North Korea is in a leadership transition from Kim Jong-il to his third son, Kim Jong-un. “It’s still hard to predict the future of North Korea,” he was cited as saying by Yonhap News Agency.
