Mountainside Eateries Found to Be Unhygienic
Seoul City found 19 of 51 restaurants checked near mountain resorts to be selling food below hygienic standards, with some samples containing food poison causing bacteria.
The harmful bacteria was detected in food at three restaurants, while three more used ingredients beyond their expiration dates, and two changed the origin of ingredients, including beef, pork and cabbage.
Two eateries were found to have used subpar ingredients, two others operated without licenses and five expanded their establishments without permission.
Dried seaweed rolls sold in two restaurants were found to have bacillus cereus, which causes food poisoning, in concentrations four to eight times more than permitted.
City authorities were taking legal action against the violators.
"The restaurants are located on the outskirts of the city and citizens worry about inattentive supervision," an official said. "However, we will continue our supervision."
