3 Other Bodies Found at Flood Site
Rescue workers Wednesday found the bodies of three other campers who went missing near the border with North Korea Sunday when a dam caused a flash flood that swept them away.
The rescue team discovered the body of Baek Chang-hyun, 38, and an eight-year old boy Lee Yong-taek near a bridge at the Imjin River, 60km northeast of Seoul, earlier in the morning. Around noon, the body of Lee Doo-hyeon, 40, was discovered.
Early Sunday morning, some 40 million tons of water from North Korea's Hwanggang Dam pushed through the Imjin River that runs through South Korea's western region, sweeping away six people who were fishing or camping along the riverbanks. Three of the six bodies were discovered earlier.
The victims were about 25km south of the border at the time of the incident.
The North claimed it opened the dam due to a sudden surge in the water level and said it will notify the South in the future before similar discharges.
Seoul Tuesday demanded a more thorough explanation and an apology from Pyongyang over the incident, saying its response was not acceptable.
