People across the nation are advised to brace for another downpour during the weekend.
The central region, which saw the start of rain on Friday afternoon, is forecast to record more than 100 millimeters through Saturday, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.
"A low pressure from China will pass North Korea. With a cold front meeting an air current with high temperatures and humidity in the central parts of the peninsula on Saturday, the region will have heavy rain along with thunder and strong wind," a weather official said.
Seoul, Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces are expected to have 60 to 150 millimeters of rain, with up to 200 millimeters of torrential rainfall likely to hit some regions.
People have been advised not to partake in outdoor activities and to take precautionary measures against damage.
The heavy rain will subside in the northern region on Sunday, but the southern region will continue to have downpours, the KMA forecast.
Rain will begin to hit the southern parts of the country on Saturday afternoon as the rain front moves south.
Residents in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province ― where seven people died or were missing after Thursday's rainstorm ― have started restoration work to repair damaged roads and other facilities.
"Rain that fell on the southern region has weakened the ground, so people need to take precautions against landslides or other calamities," the KMA official said.
The rain will continue through the middle of next week, as the front hovers over the peninsula. But the amount of rain next week will be less, the KMA said.
