Food & Drug Authorities Impose Selling Ban on Melamine Contained Foods

The Korea Food & Drug Administration (KFDA) imposed a temporary selling ban on 12 cookie and soft drink brands after finding they had ingredients contaminated with the chemical melamine, Tuesday.

According to the food authorities, the German company CFB's product, feric pyrophosphate, which was made in a manufacturing plant in Spain, was found to contain 8.4 to 21.9 ppm of the toxic chemical.

The KFDA imposed a selling and import ban on the CFB products and also ordered a recall.

Officials, meanwhile, said MSC Korea imported 5,400 kg of melamine-contaminated food ingredients and sold them to six local cookie and drink producers including HaiTai and Orion.
